Your Swimwear Deserves Better Than the Washing Machine
You invest in beautiful swimwear — and with the right care, it will look just as stunning at the end of summer as it did on day one. Chlorine, saltwater, sunscreen, and heat are the four main enemies of swimsuit fabric.
The Golden Rule: Rinse Immediately After Wearing
Rinse in cold fresh water as soon as possible after wearing. Saltwater and chlorine break down elastane fibres over time, causing swimsuits to lose their shape and colour. A 30-second cold rinse prevents the majority of this damage.
How to Wash Your Bikini Correctly
- Fill a basin with cool water and a small amount of gentle detergent.
- Gently massage the fabric — never scrub or wring.
- Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
- Press (don't wring) to remove excess water, then lay flat on a clean towel to dry.
Never put swimwear in the washing machine — the agitation damages elastane fibres permanently.
Drying: Flat Is Everything
Always dry swimwear flat in the shade. Hanging a wet bikini by the straps causes them to stretch irreparably. Direct sunlight fades colours quickly.
Sunscreen and Your Swimsuit
- Apply sunscreen and let it fully absorb before putting on your swimsuit.
- Choose mineral-based sunscreens — they're gentler on fabric fibres.
- Rinse your suit immediately after the beach.
Storage Tips
Store swimwear flat or loosely rolled — never folded tightly with the cups pressed flat. Keep them away from rough surfaces that could snag delicate fabrics.
When to Replace Your Swimwear
- The fabric has gone loose or sheer
- The colour has faded noticeably
- The lining is bubbling or peeling away
- Straps or closures have lost their elasticity
